Your Right to Request Overdraft Coverage
Hills Bank is committed to helping our customers make good financial decisions. Due to new federal regulatory changes, after August 13, 2010 we will no longer be able to provide our standard overdraft practices for ATM withdrawals and everyday debit card purchases you make at a store, online, or by telephone, unless you tell us you want overdraft coverage for these transactions. Without your permission to pay these items, the transaction will be declined if you do not have sufficient funds in your account at the time you request the transaction.
What are our standard overdraft practices that come with your account?
An overdraft occurs when you do not have enough money in your account to cover the transaction, but we pay it anyway.
We do authorize and pay overdrafts for checks and automatic bill payments.
We do not authorize and pay overdrafts for ATM transactions and everyday debit card purchases unless you tell us to.
Because we pay overdrafts at our discretion, having overdraft coverage does not guarantee that we will always authorize and pay any type of transaction. If we decide to pay an overdraft, you will be charged our current overdraft fee of $27.00 each time we pay an overdraft, not to exceed $135 per day.
Other ways we can cover your overdrafts
We offer other ways of covering your overdrafts that may be less expensive, such as linking your account to another account with us or to a line of credit. Contact us to learn more about these options. If you are currently using one of these overdraft protection services, that service remains in place for you.
You may opt-in to request overdraft coverage for your ATM withdrawals and everyday debit card purchases in the following ways:
Remember, any standard overdraft practices currently covering your ATM withdrawals and everyday debit card purchases will end after August 13, 2010 unless you opt-in your account.
Please call us at any of our branch locations or at 1-800-445-5725 if you have any questions.
