Iowa’s Tax-Free Weekend is this Friday, August 6th and Saturday, August 7th. Many back-to-school shoppers will gear up for another school year by purchasing supplies, clothing, and other school essentials. Iowa’s Tax-Free Weekend only applies to the sale of certain apparel and footwear. Below are a few tips to take advantage of during Tax-Free Weekend.

Make a List

Be prepared! Figure out which clothing and footwear items your child(ren) need. Most classrooms or teachers provide a shopping list for the year’s school supplies, which could include clothing.

Make a Plan

Do your homework and know at which stores you plan to purchase items. Through comparison shopping, you’ll save time and money. You can also try to beat long lines by shopping in the rather than going in the middle of the afternoon.

Stay Safe

Depending on where you’re shopping, you may be advised or required to wear a mask to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Be sure to have one available before you go out. Also, take advantage of curbside pickup options where available to save you time – and keep you safe.

Capitalize Your Savings

While doing your homework and making a shopping plan, look for additional savings with the use of in-store coupons or sales. Some stores offer store credit or cashback options with a minimum purchase, use those offers to your advantage to save even more.

Eligible Items

No sales tax, including local option sales tax, will be charged on the sale of clothing or footwear with an individual price less than $100. This means the exemption does not apply to a single piece of clothing or pair of shoes that has a price tag over $100.
