Stay Secure With Mobile Banking

Tags

Banking through a smartphone app or internet browser has become increasingly popular in recent years, as it offers a convenient and secure way to manage your finances. However, there are still some risks associated with using your mobile device to access sensitive information like your bank account. Here are some tips to keep your banking information secure while using your smartphone.

Keep Your Password Safe

Use a strong password and enable two-factor authentication (2FA) where possible. A strong password is at least 8 characters long and includes a mix of upper and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols. 2FA adds an extra layer of security by requiring you to enter a code from your phone in addition to your password when logging in.

In Hills Bank Online, two-factor authentication is handled automatically. We will require a 2FA code under certain circumstances. Make sure you can receive codes in case you need them by checking your contact information in Hills Bank Online: Settings -> Security Preferences -> Secure Delivery.

Watch Your Downloads and Messages

Only download mobile banking apps from official app stores. Phishing scams are a common way for hackers to steal your banking information. Make sure to only download mobile banking apps from official app stores, such as the Apple App Store or Google Play.

Be careful about clicking on links in emails and text messages. Phishing emails and text messages often contain links that, when clicked, will take you to a fake website that looks like one you trust. Once you enter your account information on the fake website, scammers will steal it.

Update for Security

Keep your mobile operating system and mobile banking app(s) up to date. Software updates often include security patches that can help protect your device from malware and other threats.

Stay Alert

Be careful what information you share online. You probably know to never share your banking information, such as your account number or password, in an email, text message, or on social media. But you should also be careful about other information you share, such as your birthday, pets’ names, or other information that is used for account recovery and security questions.

Be aware of your surroundings. Take care when using your mobile banking app in public places where someone could easily see what you're doing.
