Go Places with Google Places

Many customers connect with local businesses in their community through Google Places. When someone searches Google, business listings will often appear on a map. If your business is listed, you can claim the listing. If it is not listed, you can add your listing to the Google Map.

After claiming your listing, you have the ability to customize your listing by offering customers a description of your business, photos, reviews, hours of operation, parking costs, payment types, and coupons. You can access statistics that illustrate the number of times your listing was clicked or your coupon was downloaded.

To Setup a Google Places Listing:

  1. Create a Google Account if you don’t already have one: If you are not already registered with Google, create a new account with your business name.
  2. Sign in to Google Places: Go to Google Places and sign in with your Google account.
  3. Add or customize your business listing: If your business is already listed on Google Maps, click on the listing, then click “more info” in the top right corner of the listing. From here, you can either click “edit this place” or “Business owner?”.
  4. Add optional information: Have a competitive advantage by completing optional information provided in the Google Places form, and if applicable, creating coupons for your business.
  5. Validate your listing: Google will verify your business listing by mailing a postcard to your physical address or calling your business phone number. You’ll need to sign in to Google and input the PIN provided.

Remember, even if your business is already listed with Google Places, you should claim, verify, and personalize it to gain online presence, even if your business doesn’t have a website. And it’s free!

Visit Google Places Tips for Businesses and the Google Places User Guide for more information.

Ask the Expert

Q. Taxes are due soon and I can’t seem to find my statements or account information for 2010. What information can I get through Hills Bank Online?

A. During tax preparation time, it is not uncommon to misplace a statement or not know who a check was written to. Hills Bank Online is a valuable resource for this information.

Sometimes a copy of a deposit slip or check is just what your accountant needs for receipt purposes. But, like many, you may not have a copy of each check on hand.

Hills Bank Online offers images for up to 120 days. PowerPay users can view payments from the last 13 months. Statements are also available and can be downloaded to your computer on a monthly basis as you receive alerts. Hills Bank online is compatible with QuickBooks and Quicken which allows you to download automatically into your program. If you still can’t find a specific check, payment, or deposit, contact your Commercial Deposits Representative for help.

For more information about Hills Bank Online, PowerPay, or any other electronic banking products, please stop by any Hills Bank location or call us at 319-679-5500 for the Iowa City area, 319-654-8100 for the Cedar Rapids area, or toll free at 1-800-445-5725 and ask to speak to a Commercial Support Representative.
