Eight weeks prior to moving

• Take inventory of your home and remove the clubber (moving is a great time to sort and donate unused items)
• Start a folder for all your moving documentation such as estimates and receipts
• Transfer children's school records
Six weeks prior to moving
• Complete a change of address card at the post office or online at www.usps.com
• Price and find storage (if needed)
• Retrieve all medical recoreds and get a referral to a new health care provider
• Start using food and supplies that will not go with you
Four weeks prior to moving
• Contact all utility services at your old address and connect them to the new one
• Collect all important documents that will be needed for the move
Three weeks prior to moving
• Dispose of items that can not be moved properly
Two weeks prior to moving
• Cancel or transfer newspaper delivery
• Transfer prescriptions and have plenty on hand to get you through the move
• Create a folder of information for the new occupant of your home that could include warranties, contact lists, appliance manuals, etc.
• Send change of address cards to family, friends, and contacts
• Pack a travel toolkit for each person with items such as your license, credit cards, toiletries, tools, suitcase with clothing and personal items
• Pay outstanding bills
• Create an emergency phone list for the new community
One day prior to moving
• Close and empty your safe deposit box (if needed)
• Set aside your toolkit so it will not become lost
• Mark items that are needed first as "load last"
